Chapter Fourteen
We spent the next day completely snowed in, me balancing my phone and my laptop on my legs and Rhett ignoring his scripts and watching some horrible explosion movie on Netflix. After our marathon, back and forth night of I don't even know what someone would call it, I actually slept really, really well.
I had never been a snuggler. I usually over-heated and lately, the older I got the hotter I got at night, and not the good kind of hot. But Rhett had gathered me in, assured me he was too tired for any funny business, lightly kissed me on the back of the head, and ushered me straight into dreamland. I woke back on my side of the bed, shivering and alone.
He had brought me coffee, just the way I liked it and since then we'd been quietly co-existing beside each other. It was actually really nice. He'd helped me work through some blocks I'd been dealing with in terms of the movie that I needed to get my butt in gear for and I ran lines with him when he needed someone to play off of. It was the image of domestic bliss, but inside, when I wasn't wrapped up in work, I was a mess.
I was all over the place with my emotions, logic, and anxiety. I was the least anxious person I knew and for some reason, his ability to stay away from me was making me nervous that there was some sort of sneak attack being planned.
Throughout the day, he'd just look over at me with his adorable reading glasses on, smile, and go back to his scripts or movie, and it was driving me nuts. I needed to get out, but with the insane weather outside the door, there wasn't much that I could do without potentially getting lost in the raging blizzard.
So, I moved around as best I could in the condo. The stupid construction zone had reduced the room options to not that many so when I needed space, it was either the bedroom or the living room. Neither was going to give me the distance I needed.
I decided to call Poppy to see if she'd take my mind off the hunk of burning love that I could now hear softly talking to someone in the bedroom. Now was my chance to grill her while he was occupied.
"Hey, Clem," she cheerfully said into the phone. "How's it going in snowmageddon?"
"It's snowy. Poppy, we need to talk."
She hesitated for a second before answering. "Is everything okay?"
"No, everything is very definitely not okay," I rage-whispered into the phone. "Somehow over the course of the week, he found his way into my bed, and now I can't get rid of him."
"Jesus Christ, Clem. You slept with him?"
"Keep your voice down and no, I did not sleep with him," I paused, "but not for lack of trying."
I heard her scream and possibly drop the phone. I couldn't tell because of all the sounds coming from her end.
